Hi, I’m Christo! My wine journey began in earnest at the wine tasting course at Cornell. Popular for earning credit while getting a buzz on a Wednesday afternoon, but notorious as the most failed course on campus. I started to understand how complex wine is, how much effort goes into each bottle, and began to feel drawn by how endless a topic it can be. While my life veered in other directions (finance, graduate school, tech), I kept coming back to wine, earning the WSET Diploma in 2022.
I realized most resources are either aimed at beginners or people preparing for a Sommelier exam. What about for everyone in-between? I’ve organized my blog posts by relative depth. A ‘Sip’ generally indicates musings or tasting notes, while a ‘Magnum’ is a deep dive into a topic such as terroir. As much as possible, I don’t go deep into topics I believe are already well-covered by multiple resources (regions, wine law, etc.) Consider this your Wednesday afternoon – no exam required.
